Monthly Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Richard Boland at 9:08. There were 47 in attendance. Thanks to Patty Burns and Peggy Meinzer for refreshments.

Richard Boland, President asked members to contact David Barkley or Shirley Waggoner-Eisenman if you have recommendations for 08 guest speakers. Richard also thanked MG Bill Finley for doing the audit of the BCMGVA books for 06.

Al Smith, Treasurer reported $14,411.10 currently in the treasury. There were some questions on the revenue for Gardening by the Month being $1,075 which he will look into. Al also reminded members that they can be reimbursed to $40 for monthly refreshments. Charlie Spencer will be working on an update to current paid members list.

Hilton Holcomb, Gardens reported lots of cold damage in the gardens. He encouraged all to join the week day garden teams and enjoy the beauty of their work.

Charlie Spencer, Coordinator passed a sign up sheet for the May plant sale on the 10, 11 and 12. He asked for help to ready all plants for this sale during the weeks of April 30 and May 7.
A new storage facility will be built in the greenhouse area with some of the proceeds coming from other Extension funds and MG plant sale revenues. A new water retention pond will be created to allow this storage facility to be built.
Inmates will be working on the irrigation system in the greenhouse and expanding its current scope.
Leland Spring Fest on Saturday, April 28 will have an MG booth and plant clinic.
River Run Firewise day will offer MG plant clinic and sale.
Coastal Garden Club has a field trip to garden nurseries in the Raleigh area on Wednesday 5/16 for $35. Call Dorothea at 579-9134 if interested in joining this event.
Information on the MG State Conference for 07 will be received shortly. Fee is $115.
Charlotte Glen has reworked NCSTU publications on plants, trees and shrubs specifically for the coastal area. They have been copied and will be placed in the newcomer packets offered by the MG association. These publications will also be found on the web site.

David Barkley, Hort Agent stated Dr. Paul Fantz is speaking on Monday, May 7 at the plant ID clinic. Previous plant ID students can come as a refresh and review clinic.
Progress is being made on the connector garden with the functioning of the water feature.
Tuesday, May 8 is the distance learning plant clinic offered by the state at the BCC Leland campus. All members are invited to attend.
David thanked all who had participated in the Rain Lily project. Over 1,200 bulbs were reclaimed. He will also be updating a list of projects for the Botanical garden.

Gina Britton asked for participation and sponsorship in the Relay for Life. The event is May 4 & 5 at West Brunswick High.

The meeting was adjourned following a presentation on organic gardening by Debbie Roos.
