Monthly Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Richard Boland at 9:08. There were 37 members in attendance. Thanks to Pat Hagerty and Maggie Hoon for refreshments.
The minutes of the April 27 meeting were read and approved.
Treasurer report: Charlie Spencer stated there is approximately $24,000 in the treasury. Written report will be given at next month's meeting.
Shirley Waggoner-Eisenman: Reunion social committee meeting in board room on June 1 at 9:00. Any one interested, please attend. Currently planned for fall with more information to follow.
Richard Boland: Hot Line needs volunteers. This is the most important MG responsibility. Sign up on calendar on door. Discussion and sign up sheet for new class members being paired with experienced volunteers in a mentoring program for Hot Line and other MG activities. Recording of these hours and all other details to be discussed. The amount of Hot Line hours needed to continue certification as a MG is being discussed.
For an accurate record, please make sure to sign the attendance sheet at every meeting.
Charlie Spencer: Hand out available stating the hours needed to maintain status as Certified MG. These are: first year requirement - 40 hours on Hot Line or any public contact/interaction (seminars, etc.) This time period is June - June. The second year and beyond requirement is 20 hours Hot Line/seminars and 20 hours gardens/ greenhouse, etc running from Jan - Jan. If hours are not fulfilled, consideration will be given on individual basis. Dues do 1st of each year. Info will be given in Newsletter.
Appreciate all the time and effort currently given by all MG volunteers.
Day Lilly farm trip planned for late June. Sign up sheet passed.
Ann Duke: Recognition banquet needs volunteers. Contact her if you can help. Invitations will be mailed with a date for RSVP.
Richard Boland and David Barkley: Peter Hurdle form NC State has asked MG volunteers to help with monitoring ground pearl problem. Weekly observations are to be recorded on data sheet. If you can help in this experiment, contact David.
Nickels for know how program vote to help support NC state research. Donations made by fertilizer and feed manufacturers from revenues on certain amount of productions. Vote is needed to continue this program and users of feed or fertilizer must sign certification in order to vote. This program needs a vote every 4 years to continue.
Pond tour is June 10. Volunteers needed to work in Botanical Garden.
All participants completed the program for most recent class of MG class.
Maggie Hoon: Botanical Garden work days - 1st Monday, 2nd Tuesday and 3rd Monday of every month. Need approximately 12 workers each of these days to keep garden looking its best. Volunteers needed to work on hardscape as well.
Ash Tyler: Thanked all who volunteered at plant sale. Profit approximately $12,210 for April and $4,512 from May plant sale for a total of $16,722 and still selling plants.
Restitution program - new requirement - background check needed for people working with this program. See Ash for forms to ensure your continued working in this program.
Becky Dus: Requested recipes for printing in newsletter. Send to Becky or see her at monthly meeting.
Introductions and recognitions of elected and chair personnel were made.
Program by Bryce Lane on container gardening followed general meeting.
